Origin of the term POG
'POG' is an acronym that stands for "Person Other than Grunt." This term finds its roots in the American Civil War era, starting with disgruntled Navy sailors of Irish descent. The term 'pogue,' which means 'kiss' in Gaelic, was initially used to express frustration about those who got to stay home and receive all the ladies' kisses while they were out fighting.
Marines later adopted the term to describe individuals not directly involved in combat. Over time, 'POG' became associated with any non-combat military occupational specialties. Although initially, it might have been used with a tinge of humor or camaraderie, it's now classified as a derogatory term, and its usage is generally frowned upon, especially by those in leadership positions who might themselves be considered POGs.
Characteristics of a Super POG
A 'Super POG' refers to a person who, according to some, might be taking their personal comfort too far and failing to embrace the military lifestyle properly. Here are some signs that someone might be a 'Super POG':

Preference for luggage over a duffel bag and rucksack: Super POGs might opt for wheeled bags over traditional military gear, even when the terrain is unsuitable for such luggage.

Enjoyment in collecting command coins: While these coins were once a means to get free drinks, they are now seen by some as mere unit "swag" or mementos.

Casual attitude towards MREs (Meal, Ready-to-Eat): Super POGs might not understand the significance of MREs and the limited food choices some bases have.
